Ventilate the Attic
Many homeowners underestimate the importance of ventilating the attic with cool air during the winter season. This helps to prevent ice dams from forming on the structure due to snow that begins to freeze from the low outdoor temperatures. Cool air should be used with the use of vents and an attic fan that can be installed. Warm air should not be used when ventilating the attic, which can cause the snow to melt too quickly and can cause drainage problems on the property.
Ice dams can also be prevented by scraping off the snow with the use of a rake that gently removes snow and prevents it from freezing on the roof. It’s important to remove the older snow first, which will freeze sooner than fresh snow. The snow should also be removed by working from the edge of the roof up.
